The 3rd Annual Port & Rail Expansion Summit was opened by Mr. Roy van Eijsden, the Managing Director of Royal HaskoningDHV who was the chairman of the event. He started his opening speech by emphasizing the importance of the region in trade routes as well as the development priorities of the governments and private companies to improve infrastructure of ports and rail connections to enhance region`s logistic and trade capacities. His speech was followed by Mr. Chris Rowland, Director of MDS Transmodal, who provided a market overview of global & regional container port market. He made it clear that industry consolidations such as P3 & G6 will change the market where the market will see around 13% growth, ships capacities will increase and number of ships will decrease. This will most probably cause the smaller ships to return to their owners, deeper the berths, put pressure on inland logistic chains as well as on the ports and operators to increase their efficiency and services. He also made a case study of North Adriatic Case Study and NAPA Development Potential Scenario 2030 to provide an excellent foundation to the event.
