China is now the largest coating producer and consumer in the world. In 2009, China’s total coating output was close to 7.55 million tons. Afterwards, the sales of coating products in Asia rose by 30% in late 2010. Since then, industry coating projects have been maintaining a steady growth and due to the development of rural areas in China, the demand for paint products will increase within the next two years. Local Chinese coating companies are looking to expand their business overseas, which will require them to focus on improving the quality of raw materials and equipment to compete in the international market.
Partnering with Lux Research and SSPC-C, Noppen hosted the China Advanced Coating Technology Congress in Shanghai, on 17-19 of January 2013. Attended by over 80 prominent industry leaders, senior government officials and executives from the sectors of aerospace coatings, automobile coatings, industrial coatings, anti-corrosive coatings, protective and marine coatings.
Mr. TIAN Tieliang, Chairman and General Manager of Tianjin Colouroad Coating& Chemicals Co. Ltd, gave the opening speech. He introduced the current development situation of China’s Coating industry and the trend of improving the domestic coating manufacturers. Keynote speaker, Mr. ZHANG Shuihe, Secretary General shared the data regarding the development of foreign and local coating companies. He also gave some advice for the future investment opportunities. Another vital speaker, Mr. GUI Taijiang, he is the Chief Engineer of Marine Chemical Research Institute, the topic included the newest trends and development of anti-corrosion coatings.
TS＆D Manager from Cytec, Mr. Kevin Kang gave updated waterborne solutions for protective applications. His speech has given enlightenment on the development of domestic waterborne coatings. Ms. SUN Ling, Deputy Chief Engineer of Shanghai Coating Company represented Mr. YU Jianfeng, Chief Engineer of Shanghai Coating Company and also the head of Shanghai’s Research institute of paint and coatings, to introduce the application of waterborne epoxy coatings on the field of anti-corrosion. Mr. Richard CUI, founder of coatings-academy organization, h illustrated the standards and application regarding to polyurea DTM coating.
Dr. HORST Hintze-Bruening and Mr. Chunyong LEE from BASF and PPG spoke on automotive coatings and fire protection to domestic coatings manufacturers. Mr. William Ge, Technical Manager from Akzo Nobel, gave a speech on the new standards and regulations for steel structure fire protection.
The first day ended with a panel discussion moderated by Richard CUI, and joined byMs. SUN Ling, Deputy Chief Engineer of Shanghai Coating Company, Mr. JING Xiqing, Technical Support Manager from PPG, and Mr. WANG Minjie, Deputy Chief Engineer from Tianjin Beacon Coating Company. Industry experts discussed on the major issues including prospects of adopting the waterborne coatings and future trends of China industry Coating.
Besides the technical discussion, Mr. Jerrold WANG, research associate from Lux Research, gave an overview of architectural coatings market. Mr. Luke Johnson, research associate from GISG, has use the profile of a tier two paint specialist to express the China automotive coating industry. For the architectural coatings, Mr. Enigma XIONG, technical director from Valspar and Mr. LIN Xuanyi, chief engineer from STO, have represented the architectural coatings marketing and technical side.
Other keynote speakers at the event were Mr. FENG Dejin, he has offered new spray technology regarding to the anti-corrosion coatings. Due to the urgent meeting for Carpoly Shanghai, Mr. ZHANG Gaofeng was unable to present on the second day, however, he demonstrated his idea about waterborne wood coatings in this event book.
