2nd Annual South East Asia Port Expansion Summit, 2014
The economic slowdown in Europe and the US did not affect the shipping industry in Southeast Asia due to vibrant trade within the region that comprised 27 per cent of total ASEAN trade last year as well as Indonesian cruise tourism has experienced its highest ever growth with a more than 40 percent increase in the number of calls and passengers during the year as more cruise liners, both long standing and new players, entered the country’s ports. The Ministry of Transportation of Indonesia has allocated 500 billion rupaih for the development of 91 minor ports throughout Indonesia, of which 70 would begin construction in 2014.
