Turkey is the sixth largest electricity market in Europe, and one of the fastest growing globally. Inclusion of renewable sources into overall energy matrix and government focus on development of the wind power industry will fuel the overall installed capacity growth in coming years.
Figures from the country's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) showed installed wind capacity rose by 521MW to 1,805 MW last year. Wind energy analyses have also determined that the country has a considerable 48,000 megawatts of wind power potential.
The ministry is on a push to attract investors, project developers and manufacturers to Turkey. By 2023, the nation is aiming to get 30% of its energy from renewable sources. In addition to lowering its environmental impact, Turkey wants to reduce its dependence on other nations for energy. The market is expected to witness phenomenal growth in coming years.
