8th Annual China Nuclear Power Congress

Currently, the use of nuclear power is increasing around the world; nuclear electricity already represents the primary part in electricity production. As people get more and more concerned about the greenhouse effect and climate change, nuclear energy as a low-carbon option provides reliable electricity, can play an important part in the energy mix and is becoming an increasingly important part of a clean energy future. To meet our nation’s need for dependable, safe and sustainable electricity, actively promoting nuclear power construction has become one of our nation’s key energy development strategies. It is important to realize our goals of protecting our environment, optimize the electricity industry structure and improve our nation’s comprehensive economic strength and technology level, and enhance our international status.

On 24 October, 2012, the State Council of China finally approved the Nuclear Safety Development Plan and Medium and Long-Term Nuclear Power Development Plan, officially stride forward one step to the restart of NPPs construction in a safer and moderate way. According to WNA’s prediction, China’s nuclear capacity will achieve 67.3 GW by 2020.
