India Port Expansion and Capacity Upgrading Conference, 2010
Noppen in association and support from Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA), Indian Private Ports & Terminals Association (IPPTA) and the American General Business Association (AGBA), hosted its first ever event, India Port Expansion and Capacity Upgrading Conference, in Mumbai on 21-22 October 2010.
With India’s undeniable future growth in the port sector, it was made public in June 2010 that Indian Government will invest $12bn in ports under the National Maritime Development Programme. The prime objective behind this being expansion of port capacity to 1.2 billion tons to accommodate and support the increasing trade. Containerization of the market and increasing cargo throughput volumes are also leading to very aggressive expansion and construction plans.
Noppen’s conference brought together over 70 government representatives, terminal operators, port authorities and solution providers to discuss and understand the challenges and solutions to mark this milestone and develop India’s ports into efficient trade hubs.
