3rd China Power Transmission and Distribution Summit 2011

, Nanjing, Jiangsu

NANJING, CHINA, 14-15 JULY 2011 – After the surge of investments into the power grid industry, China focused its attention on power grid upgrades, with plans to invest an astonishing RMB 1 trillion in power grid development to maintain steady growth from 2009 to 2011

Noppen’s 3rd China Power Transmission and Distribution Summit took place on the 14th-15th July 2011 at the Sofitel Hotel, Nanjing, China and was attended by 100 industry leaders; government representatives, industry experts and members of the international community. They discussed updates on national development plans, and present suggestions for power grid development.

Day one began with a speech from Luo Qun, Deputy Mayor Nanjing People’s Municipal Government who welcomed the delegates to Nanjing and discussed prospects for China’s power grid development. There were a number of excellent speakers at the event who delivered informative and detailed speeches that were not only rich in content but topically relevant to the attendees. A particularly noteworthy speech was delivered by Officials from State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Deputy Director, Chang Jianping and Division Chief, Liu Yafang. Their speech was exceptional as they spoke from a market supervision point of view which gave the attendees a new perspective. After the presentation a highly interactive Q&A session took place where the attendees took the opportunity to gain further knowledge and add in their own opinions.

Their speech was followed by Ms. Chen Mei, Director of Clean Energy Research Institute in State Grid Electric Power Research Institute. Her presentation focused on the changes occurring in China’s grid structure under new energy development. She spoke of how the national grid faces new challenges due to the increasing solar and wind energy projects. Furthermore, she outlined the national strategic solutions to adapt to changing needs. Her expert knowledge captivated the attendees’ attention and they listened carefully to her presentation. “Well-focused on the theme and well-organized.” Eaton Corporation

Day two was as equally as full of prominent speakers and the conference began with keynote speaker Dr. Feng Limin, Director of Jilin Electric Power Company, a noted expert in wind energy integration. His speech was greatly anticipated by the attendees and he gave a standout presentation which raised awareness to the current problems of wind energy integration. Shortly after his speech another expert took to the podium,

Mr. Wang Dezhong, General Manager of Shanghai Power Transmission and Distribution Testing Center. His 30 years experience in the high voltage equipment research and development sector allowed him to deliver a great presentation on technology progress of equipment that is used in smart grid high voltage power transmission and distribution. Moreover, day two also included a speech from Mr. Yang Chengsheng, General Manager of Department of Intelligent Substation at Guodian Nanjing Automation Company. Guodian Nanjing Automation Company is one of the first companies in China to work on intelligent substation and Mr. Yang Chengsheng introduced technology development and application of smart substation. The attendees were greatly interested by their presentation. “Reports are professional, well organized.” Shanghai Jiao Tong University, National Energy Smart Grid (Shanghai) R & D Center

New introductions at the conference came from Momentive, the world leader in special chemicals and materials. A joint presentation given by their Marketing Development Manager of Composites Wind Energy, Mr. Christoph Scheuer and Asia Pacific Marketing Manager of Energy, Mr. Luo Yi, who introduced their epoxy and silicone application in the power industry. Similarly, Wacker and Dow Chemical, two of the biggest chemical companies in the world introduced their products used in power industry. Wacker promoted the complete range of insulating and eclectically conducting silicone whilst Dow Chemical used the conference as an opportunity to draw attention to their wire and cable products.

A presentation that attendees found fresh and inspiring came from Mr. Wang Fei, Application Engineer of Digital Energy from General Electric who introduced GE’s smart grid solutions in the conference. Another impressive speech came from Mr. Du Hong, General Manager of Beijing Xinnenghuizhi Company; he presented the current research progress of Micro- Grid technology. His outstanding presentation skills made the presentation thoroughly enjoyable to listen to and he spoke of how Micro- Grid technology is an advanced, innovative technology and this is emphasized through its growth in several different countries. Also, Mr. Du’s presentation focused on China’s regional characteristics and he highlighted his point by talking about local case studies in Beijing.

Notably, during the afternoon of day one, attendees participated in a site tour to the Smart Grid Museum in Nanjing’s Jiangning economic and technology development zone. The newly built museum is the only one of its kind in China and it is an impressive energy saving building that has 28 photovoltaic glasses installed which generate power. The interior of the building is just as remarkable and includes a power generation model of wind energy, solar energy and nuclear energy, and has a special area where it includes an E-bus charging station application model and remote control household appliances etc. The attendees found the museum to be extraordinary and were exceedingly impressed by it. “Site visit on Day one of the event was valuable.” Dow After the site visit to the museum, attendees visited the state grid corporation’s smart grid industrial base, which is currently under construction and will be a major research base for China smart grid development.

At the end of the site tour, a government hosted dinner was held in Jianglin Hotel. All the attendees were invited by Jiangning economic and technology development zone and enjoyed delicious food and a marvelous performance.

Noppen would like to express special thanks to Nanjing People’s Municipal Government and the 3rd China Power Transmission and Distribution Summit sponsors Momentive, Wacker Chemicals, Dow, Ormazabal, Jinling DSM Resins and Shanghai Xingyuan Dongan Electric.
