4th Annual China LNG Technology and Development Summit

October 10th & 11th, 2011, Shanghai, China

SHANGHAI, CHINA, 13-14 OCTOBER 2011 – The 4th Annual China LNG Technology and Development Summit took place at the Crowne Plaza, Shanghai, China on the 13th – 14th October 2011. Over 120 delegates from major gas companies, power companies, and energy groups across China and the world came together to discuss the global & domestic LNG market trends, share latest project practices, and develop cooperation partnerships. “Very helpful to know the industry.” Suzhou Gas Group Design Institute. 

The two day conference began with a welcoming speech from Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration by CHEN Xiaoguang, Deputy Director. He was followed by his colleague Section Chief and Senior Engineer for Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration, LIU Xiaodong. He discussed the importance of maritime transport safety from the LNG import trend and spoke about his experience working in the, ‘Dangerous Goods Control Prevention of Pollution Department’. The delegates found his speech interesting and listened carefully to his presentation. Another great speaker on the morning of day one was XIA Yishan, Director, Strategy Research Center for China Institute of International Studies. His speech was highly detailed and divided into two parts; in the first part he introduced the background of new energy revolution. In the second part he introduced energy development strategies, the structure of energy in China, and the increasing energy needs. Furthermore he spoke of LNG development strategies, including exploring natural gas, the construction of natural gas pipeline networking, developing and researching on unconventional gas, and etc. Interestingly he mentioned the status quo and perspective of international cooperation in the natural gas area; he used case studies to help illustrate his points. 
ZHUANG Binjun, Regional Director of Western Australian Trade Office (China) introduced LNG projects in Western Australia and gave the delegates an outlook of Australia’s LNG export. There is a diverse range of projects in Australia that are under construction and under consideration. He mentioned that there is a bright future for LNG producers in Australia and most of the world’s largest LNG producers have a strong presence in Australia. He even went on to explain the role of State Government and how the government support LNG industry. A number of delegates were interested in his speech and exchanged ideas with him. Day one of the conference came to a close after a speech by HU Ronghua, Assistant Director and Senior Engineer of Yangshangang Maritime Safety Administration. Similarly to LIU Xiaodong he emphasized the importance of safety especially marine monitoring of LNG carriers at the port. “Very good presentations and excellent delegates.” .” Ebara International Corporation

Day two of the conference was just as riveting as day one, a number of great speakers were present. A particularly standout speaker was YAO Jiping, Vice President of Operations for Guangdong Dapeng LNG Co. LTD. His presentation introduced the overall situation about Guangdong Dapeng LNG Co. LTD. It owns and operates the LNG import terminal & trunk lines which has a total investment of 8 billion RMB. Moreover, it is the first LNG Terminal under operation in China. Additionally, he spoke about safety operation in LNG project, covering topics such as risk management, measures taken to mitigate risks and future development. His presentation was followed by the Chairman of the conference, LI Yulong, Director of Strategic Development, China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corp. He discussed the current situation and development tendency of natural gas liquefaction domestically and abroad. Mr. LI Yulong was an excellent Chairman and helped ensure the smooth running of the two day conference. 
In the afternoon of day two a panel discussion occurred, which included YAO Jiping, Juan Antonio Grinan CONTRERAS, Project Manager, Enagás, S.A., Nick HARRISON, Managing Director, Natural Gas, Clarksons and ZHUANG Binjun. They engaged in an enjoyable and interesting discussion on hot topics such as LNG industry development and perspective in China and abroad and LNG industry chain. All the delegates listened intently as the four men contributed their thought and ideas on certain topics. “Well prepared, topics have covered a wide range of the industry, well organized and good effect.” China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corporation

The conference also provided a platform for new introductions of products and ideas to be introduced, David W. Cameron, Vice President, Business Development, and Hans E. Kimmel, Executive Director R&D of Ebara International Corporation introduced three basic control options for LNG expanders, LNG expander performance and expander designs. Siemens AG sent their Feed Team Manager / BOG Compressor Expert Sven-Erik BRIN to speak upon the progress in advanced technology and to introduce how Siemens BOG compressor is used in LNG receiving terminals. Also, LIANG Shizhong, Application Development Engineer, WCN Ship Power from Wartsila China Ltd spoke of engines used for sailing on LNG. He gave in depth comparisons of engine emission and introduced the audience to Wartsila dual-fuel-electric LNG carriers and Wärtsilä 34DF engine. 

Other notable speakers at the event came from China Gas Association, Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing, GDF SUEZ Singapore, Clarksons, Skaugen (China) Holding Co. Ltd., Enagás, S.A., China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corp, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Ltd and Shanghai Natural Gas Pipeline Network Co. Ltd. “It is meaningful to hold such event.” Shanghai LNG Co. Ltd.
