4th Annual China Nuclear Power Congress

SHANGHAI IN CHINA, 24-25 JUNE 2010 – China aims to increase the share of non-fossil fuels in its primary energy consumption to around 15 percent by 2020. Nuclear power, as an efficient, clean and safe energy, is playing an increasingly important role in China's energy mix. After the tremendous success of the previous event, co-organized with Weihai People's Municipal Government of Shandong Province, Noppen moved the 4th Annual China Nuclear Power Congress to Shanghai, a featured venue for nuclear power equipment manufacturing in China. Noppen's China Nuclear Power Congress aimed to provide a strategic opportunity for key industry professionals from China and abroad to network and explore cooperation and business opportunities.

In close co-organization with Lingang Group and with support from the Nuclear Industry Association, UK Trade and Investment and the American General Business Association, Noppen hosted the 4th Annual China Nuclear Power Congress in Shanghai, on the 24-25 June 2010. Attended by over 170 prominent industry leaders, senior directors and engineers from China's nuclear power plants, top design institutes, construction groups, engineering companies and major Nuclear Power Equipment Production Bases, this congress illustrated China's newest industrial policies, advanced technology solutions for plant growth, project management, and the most up-to-date progress reports on major projects in China.

Opening speech at the congress was given by Zide Tang, Member of Expert Committee, State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation and Former Vice Director General, National Nuclear Power Leadership Team of State Council who presented on nuclear energy as China's clean energy future, in particular introducing AP1000 equipment manufacturing. Yunqiao Bao, Former Director General of Expert Committee, National Nuclear Power Leadership Team of State Council stressed the importance of nuclear power in the Chinese Energy Mix and Xinmin Xue, Energy Research Institute, National Development and Reform Commission, introduced industry policies from the point of view of NDRC. Wyman-Gordon "This was a very important event for acknowledging nuclear industry market information"

Keynote speakers at the event were Keith Parker, Chief Executive, Nuclear Industry Association (NIA), who gave an overview of the UK’s nuclear power industry and future progress; Hongju Tang, Deputy Chief Engineer, Dongfang Electric Co Ltd, introduced Dongfang Electric nuclear power equipment manufacturing and Yikang Dou, Deputy Chief Engineer at Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute presented on engineering in nuclear power projects. Crane Nuclear inc noted that the congress was"extremely valuable for information, networking and exploring business partners".

Industry leaders introduced their most up-to-date technology information. Both TBT Tiefbohrtechnik GmbH + Co and SIRMU introduced their deep hole drilling machines; from PIETRO CARNAGHI, Area Manager for Far East, Mario Ottolenghi introduced their solutions for heavy and accuracy parts manufacturing, and Raymond J. Gaudin and Jenny Chen from IIG introduced their innovative insulation solutions for power plants. George Baird, Regional Manager UK, Metal Improvement Company gave an overview on how they can help extend the life of power station components and Aibin Xu from DNV China introduced best practice for nuclear power sustainability. SchenckProcess "Satisfied! Very worthy event provided the most up-to-date information regarding the China nuclear equipment manufacturing industry's progress for self-reliance. I wish there will be more equipment manufacturing meetings from Noppen in the future".

Other speakers included Jun Li, Vice President and Chao Chen, Manager of Business at Worley Parsons; Haici Chen, Lingang Group Planning Director; Xiurong Li, Conformity Assessment Manager, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Chuanjiu Tian, Member of Council, Engineering Department of China Experimental Fast Reactor. Harbin Power Equipment Co., Ltd noted that they were "very impressed with the entire conferences organization and also that the congress had a good cross section of attendees". Highlights at the congress included on day one the Sponsored Lunch by the Nuclear Industry Association and the UK Trade & Investment. The attending trade delegation from the UK gave short presentations lead by Keith Parker, Chief Executive, NIA. On Saturday 26th June approx 35 conference participants attended the site visit to Lingang Heavy Equipment Zone, the biggest industry development in Shanghai, and Shanghai Electric Lingang Nuclear Power Equipment Manufacturing Base.
