4th Annual China Power Transmission and Distribution Summit

Nanjing City, China, 21 MARCH – 22 March 2013 - Due to the proactive national power grid investment policy, China’s transmission and distribution market has grown quickly in recent years. The size of the market in 2015 is expected to reach 320 billion Chinese Yuan.

After the immense success of the previous China Power Transmission and Distribution Summit, Noppen held its 4th Annual China Power Transmission and Distribution Summit. The Summit brought together major domestic and international players in the industry and government organizations to discuss critical topics including government’s initiatives, best practices in this sector, as well as doing business in China in general. Experts and industry leaders discussed the development trends and government policies of the smart grid and power T&D industry, exchange the core technologies of energy storage, information communication, smart substation and micro-grid construction and development, address the best solutions for power grid operation and management and aim to find the best partners. 

The two day conference opened with the welcome speech by Mr. YE Rongsheng, the Director of Nanjing Municipal Economic & Information Commission. Mr. REN Yanming, the Vice General Manager of Grid Division from Beijing Sifang Automation Co. Ltd was the conference chairman and moderated the two day conference. Ms. LI Ji, Associate Researcher of Energy Research Institute National Development and Reform Commission was the first speaker. During her presentation, she gave audience a draft image about the energy development and its impact of Smart Grid Development in China. Followed by this, was Mr. Mustafa DIN, the Senior General Manager (Operations – Region 1) of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia who touched upon the key developments in Transmission & Distribution within Malaysia. 

Later, Mr. ML CHAN, the SVP of ML Consulting Group and the Executive Director -Smart Grid of Joint US-China Collaboration on Clean Energy (JUCCCE), focussed on ‘T&D Smart Grid – Global Trend & Standards’ and through his presentation, the audience learnt more on the global standards and the trends in the Smart Grid industry especially about the distribution part. Mr. YANG Yingjian is the Chief Engineer of State Grid Electric Power Research Institute, who introduced the technologies of Smart Power Transmission and Distribution and through his speech, the participants learnt about the technology development trends and plans about the power transmission and distribution industry. 

Day one also saw Mr. Kyong Yop PARK who is the Vice President for R&Ds of Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI). His presentation was on ‘The Development and Testing of Intelligent EHV/UHV Class GIS. Other notable speakers were Mr. XU Heping, the Chief Engineer of NARI Technology Development Co Ltd who spoke about Smart Grid Construction and Technology Application and Mr. WANG Xiaoyan, the Vice Chief Engineer of Research Institute of Information Technology & Communication from State Grid Electric Power Research Institute,who gave presentation on IPv6 Technology and its applications. 

Day two began with Mr. REN Yanming who spoke about ‘The Current State and Future of Smart Substation’ followed by Mr. YANG Bo, the Director of Energy Storage Converting Technology Center, Renewable Energy Research Department of China Electric Power Research Institute, who introduced the application of Energy Storage Technologies in the Renewable Energy Power Generation. Later, Mr. TAO Wenwei, the Vice Director of Regulation and Control Center from China Southern Power Grid Co Ltd gave a presentation on ‘Construction and Thinking of Distribution Automation System for China Southern Power Grid Co Ltd’ and focused on the distribution automation system’ construction of China Southern Power Grid Co Ltd. Mr. Xavier YANG, the Senior Research Engineer in R&D of EDF China shared his experience with the delegates about the Smart Grid, Integration of Renewable Energies, Energy Storage and Power Quality Mitigation. 

Another very important speaker of Day2 was Mr. WANG Ruoxing, the Vice Chief Engineer of State Grid XJ Group and the Chief Engineer of Micro -grid Company of State Grid XJ Group. He gave a presentation on ‘Micro-grid Key Technology Research and Its Application’. 

The conference also saw the introduction of new services where the silver sponsor General Cable (China) sent their Field Application Manager - East China, Mr. HAN Gaobao to make an excellent speech about High-tech Alloy Cables. Besides this, some sponsors such as Nexans and CGS showed their newest products to all the delegates and had a deep discussion with the leading electric power companies. 

Mr. ZHANG Yu, the Vice Director of Technology and Development Center of Shanghai Municipal Electrical Power Company shared his experience on the Development Policy Analysis of the Battery Energy Storage Power Station and Mr. ZHAO Yu, the Director of WICO Group gave a presentation on ‘Application of 4G Technologies in Smart Grid’; were some other speakers who received a positive feedback and participation from the delegates. 

Another noteworthy mention was that some of the speakers accepted the onsite media interview by our media partner. There was also a site tour organized at Smart Grid Museum in Jiangning district, Nanjing City, China and government dinner was hosted at the end of day 1.
