5th Annual China Nuclear Power Congress

CHENGDU, CHINA, 19-20 MAY 2011 – After the remarkable success of the previous events, Noppen hosted its 5th Annual China Nuclear Power Congress in Chengdu, co-organized with Shanghai Lingang Group with support from Chengdu Municipal Government, Dongfang Electric and Zhongguo Erzhong Group. The event took place on 19-20 May 2011 with 150 attendees coming together to focus on the safety side of nuclear power development.

The morning of day one began with an opening speech from Chengdu Municipal Government and this was followed by key speaker, Tang Zide, member of the expert committee and Deputy Director of the State Office of Nuclear Technology. His speech was divided into three main sections; he firstly spoke of the Fukushima nuclear incident and its influence upon Japan, secondly he mentioned China's path of nuclear power development and lastly, he spoke of progress introduction of AP 1000. His presentation was well received and the attendees held a positive view of nuclear power development based on the safety considerations that Tang Zide outlined. "I like the organization, catering and topics & speakers. On day two of the event, key speaker Li Qi, Deputy General Manager of Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant, also spoke of the Fukushima nuclear incident and gave in depth details about the incident; in addition to this, he gave an introduction of Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant. He spoke about the differences between Hongyanhe nuclear power plant and Fukishima nuclear power plant. The distinctions between the two nuclear power plants were of high interest to the attendees and they listened intently as he spoke. Also on day two, key speaker, Dai Zhonghua, Assistant General Manager of Dayawan Nuclear Power Plant, spoke of life cycle management in a nuclear plant. From Dai's experiences and vast knowledge of nuclear power plants, he thinks life cycle management is the most important way to keep nuclear power plants safe. The talks given by Dr. Won Jae Lee, Korea Atomic Energy Research and Wang Mingzhen, China Institute of Atomic Energy received great interest among the audience. They individually spoke of their respective countries/company development of fourth generation nuclear reactor - SMART reactor and fast reactor, members of the audience asked a number of questions. "Very good. Industry leaders introduced their most up-to-date technology information, Pierre-Yves Grisey, Head of Supply Chain Services, SGS France, spoke of the Third Party Services to the nuclear industry. His presentation gave perspective on the approach to manage nuclear challenges, addressed topics like nuclear specific requirements with regard to quality, implementation of quality organization or make-or-buy strategy. He mentioned giving return on experience and included concrete examples of what Third Party Services can bring in this context. Chen Hong China CAM Product Manager, Delcam and Allan Zhang, General Manager of Nagel Machinery Trading presented their advanced machine tooling technology application in the nuclear industry. Their services are apparently of interest to Dongfang Electric, China National Erzhong Group and Shanghai Electric who are the main manufactures of key nuclear power equipment. As well as this Jean-Dominique Barbat, China Senior Representative of AREVA Back-End Business Group introduced Areva’s Nuclear Fuel Recycling service. It is an option for competitive and predictable economics, and will be a future trend. "I gained some knowledge about current nuclear plan, principle, main work etc. through this conference. Very informative and I think it is a very meaningful event." Siemens.

Other notable speakers came from Chengdu Investment and Promotion Commission, Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People’s Republic of China, Nuclear Energy Economy Professional Commission, Energy Research Institute of National Development and Reform Commission, SGS France, Lloyds Register, China National Erzhong Group, NAGEL Machinery Trading (Beijing) Co Ltd, Shanghai Electric, EDF China, China’s Nuclear Power Research Institute and Southwestern Institute of Physics.
