6th Annual Retail Development Summit on Revival of In-store Shopping

October 18th & 19th, 2012, Shanghai, China

SHANGHAI CHINA, 18-19 October 2012 – Retailer’s today are faced with increasingly sophisticated customers and a new generation of middle class with high aspirations. Today’s shopper is seeking a more informative, intelligent, engaging and efficient shopping experience. Physical stores faced with the challenges brought by proliferative online shopping, and the increasingly demanding customers understand the need to evolve and are implementing new solutions to service the needs of their current and future customers.

As the 6th annual summit in Noppen’s retail event series, the 6th Annual China Retail Development Summit had served as a perfect platform for the major industry players to explore the innovative strategies as well as technologies towards cutting edge customer shopping experience and enhanced operational efficiency.

Opening speech at the congress was given by Ms. WU Ruiling, Vice Secretary General, China Chain Store and Franchise Association, who presented on “The Changing Landscape of China’s Retail Industry.”She mentioned that the retail industry is in the middle of a transformation and stressed on the importance for retailers to evolve with the new generation of customers. In the panel discussion followed, Ms. Li Fern WOO, Consulting Partner, KPMG(Shanghai) and the panel participants Mr. KONG Chi Keung, Country Manager, Giordano China; Mr. Rowan VERWOERD, BD Director, C & A China and Mr. Leon GOLDWATER, Chairman, Europe Real Estate; Executive Board Member, Brandspot had an interesting argument on strategies for conventional retailers to winning the war against e-tailers. The panel discussion captivated the attention from the audience.

Keynote speakers at the event were Mr. Rowan VERWOERD, BD Director, C & A China, who introduced C&A’s store development strategies in China; Mr. ZHANG Jiang, Director, Store Development, UNIQLO China, who gave an review on the development history of UNIQLO and stressed on the need for local Chinese brands to learn from the successful stories of UNIQLO. Mr. Bobby CHAN, Head of Corporate Development, LAWSGROUP, gave a brief introduction on LAWSGROUP’s history, positioning and growth as well as the strategies of LAWSGROUP expanding in China. Mr. Leon GOLDWATER, Chairman, Europe Real Estate and Executive Board Member, Brandspot presented on “How do We Create A Retail Uplift?” He mentioned that pop up stores, acting as the link between shopping malls and brands will help both sides to achieve better sales results. Mr. YU Guanghua, GM, Shenzhen Coastal Business Management Co Ltd impressed the audience with Coastal City’s successful stories and shared the simple yet easy to implement strategies in running and operating a world class shopping destination.

Ms. Nicole TENG, Research Analyst, Euromonitor International (Shanghai) Co Ltd made an insightful presentation on “Reinventing Retail – The Future of Shopping. ” Mr. Tony ZHAO, Vice President, eFuture Information Technology Inc introduced on eFuture’s “My Store” platform – How retailers could improve sales result through effective social media marketing. Mr. Damon Paling, Partner, PwC Worldtrade Management Services, shared with the audience his expertise on retail supply chain management with an insightful presentation on “ Best Practices For Navigating Through Customs and CIQ-Ensure Your Merchandise Reaches the Right Store at the Right Time. ” Mr. Tim BORGMANN, Director, Centro Marangoni shared with the audience from educational point of view, how retailers would meet the competitiveness in China’s fast expanding luxury retail industry with the improvement of HR skills through professional and systematic training program. Day Two ended with an insightful panel discussion monitored by Mr. Mirko WORMUTH, Founder & CEO, TWICE Fashion Accessories and joined by Mr. David TAN, Manager (/Head) of Service Delivery Team, Kingfisher IT Service (B&Q China); Mr. Tony ZHAO, Vice President, eFuture Information Technology Inc; Ms. Iris SHAO, Market Development Department Director, Hiersun. The panel focused on the major issues of customer relationship management, and have captivated wide attention from the audience.

Industry leaders introduced their most up–to–date technology information. Mr. Patrick ZHANG, Asia Product Manager for Lamp, GE Lighting Asia introduced on how, by adopting innovative and high efficient, long life lighting system, retailers could benefit from enhanced store environment as well as the reduction of energy and maintenance costs. Mr. Steve KEMP, Director, SFD Asia shared from a designer’s perspective on how by creating extraordinary shopping experience and improving the customer journey, retailers could ultimately drive consumer sales. Mr. Leon ZOU, Solution Manager, AXIS Communications made a brief introduction to Axis net-work video solution designed for the retail industry, how retailers would make a great difference with Axis Network Solution. Ms. Sue SU, Deputy GM, Lighting Division, Shenzhen Absen Optoelectronic made an insightful presentation on “Dancing with Consumers - LED Create Wonderful Shopping Experience” – why and how Absen LED solutions would help retailers create extraordinary shopping experience and increase sales results. Mr. Steve HOOK, International Marketing Director, Aerohive made an insightful presentation on “Using Wireless to Unlock Customer Loyalty” – How retailers could maintain customer loyalty by building an engaging and informing shopping experience, and why Aerohive is best-of-breed network partner in the retail sector. Mr. Ernest WANG, General Manager, Terra Nova Telecom introduced on Terra Nova’s smart shop solution. Mr. GAO Hua, Channel Manager, Elo Touch Solutions made a brief introduction on how retailers could benefit from increased operational efficiency with Elo Touch products.
