China Machine Tool Summit

SHENYANG, CHINA, 09-10 JUNE 2011 – For the last 10 years China has been the world's largest consumer of machine tools and since 2009 is also the number one manufacturer. In line with the upgrading of key manufacturing sectors in China, high-end machine tools need to be produced to global quality standards now more than ever. Multipurpose CNC machine tools offering better integration, higher speed, more intelligence, greater accuracy and more environmentally friendly features are increasingly required by Chinese customers, in particular those from the heavily invested automotives, aerospace and energy sectors.

The China Machine Tool Summit, co-organized by Shenyang Municipal Government and CECIMO took place on the 9th to 10th of June in Kempinski Hotel, Shenyang, China. A total of 90 were in attendance including government officials, major high-end machine tools manufacturers and top design institutes to discuss to discuss the most advanced technologies in developing high-end manufacturing tools. The summit was held on the same day as the Mayor Government Meeting which was being held in Shenyang City Town Hall. The government officials attending our event included the Mayor, Vice Mayor, Secretary General of Shenyang Municipal Government as well as the Director of Information Department of Foreign Ministry, and Director of Shenyang Municipal Bureau of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation. “Organizations, service is superb.”Shengyang Machine Tool Co Ltd. 

Opening the event on day one was Shaoqing Gu, Director of Shenyang Municipal Bureau of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation. He gave an overview of Shenyang City and introduced the various business opportunities available in Shenyang city. His speech was shortly followed by Shan Zhongde, a key note speaker and Director of Advanced Manufacture Technology Center, China Academy of Machinery Science & Technology. His speech was particularly enjoyed by the attendees who listened intently to him introduce the current situation and technology of energy saving and emission reduction machinery. He also gave suggestions for the development of energy saving and emission reduction technology in the machinery and equipment industry. Later on day one, both Shrio Takata, Vice President, Makino Asia Pte Ltd and Marco Bonacina, Senior Area Manager China, Mikron Machining, used video presentation to illustrate and highlight their points. Shrio Takata used a short video to show the working process of the Ultra Precision Wire EDM UPN-01 machine and Marco Bonacina played short movies in order to show the efficiency of compound machining solution for advanced manufacturing industry. The day concluded with a speech from keynote speaker, Xu Xuchu, Deputy General Manager of OKUMA-BYCJ, with his strong technical background many were anticipating his speech and he did not disappoint and gave a riveting introduction of the unique CNC technology for modern machine tool. “Very valuable to learn new technologies and applications, and it’s an effective platform for the latest trend. A platform for information communication.” Walter. 

The morning of day two began with Jim Dong, Senior Application Engineer, Kennametal Hardpoint (Shanghai) Co., who gave an overview about ‘Spindle Connections: KM-4X TOOLING SYSTEM’, stating that this is the next generation spindle connection for metal working and equipment manufacturing. He was followed by keynote speaker, Jan Borgonjon, President of InterChina, who delivered a great speech which was well received by the audience, he gave an in depth introduction on the machining industry and gave a lot of information on the competition, cooperation and development and applied implications for Chinese companies. 

New product information came from Walter AG; they brought their new products and solutions for advanced machinery industry. During the presentation, the OEM manger Michael Zheng introduced Walter industry-specific solution for applying in different industry machinery such as automotive, aircraft & aerospace, energy, railway etc. Further introductions came from PPG and Balluff, both showcased their newest products to all the attendees which led to a deep discussion with the leading machinery and equipment manufactures. Other notable speakers came from Shanghai Hardware City Co., Ltd, Walter AG and Mori Seiki (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. “Get to know some advanced manufacturing equipment and technology, have better understanding of the development of intelligent manufacturing equipment machine tool industry and future trend.” Hangzhou Good Friend Precision Machinery Co Ltd. Also, on day two there was a site tour to Shenyang Machine Tool Group and Northern Heavy Industries Group Co., Ltd. A majority of the attendees went along and were taken to the showroom of Northern Heavy Industries Group Co., Ltd and this was followed by the Deputy Chief Engineer of Shenyang Machine Tool Group taking them around the workshops whilst giving a detail introduction of the workings. “Learned many new things, very fresh, I hope to participate again.” BAI Yong
