China Mining Technology and Investment Summit 2010

BAOTOU IN CHINA, 24-25 JUNE 2010 – China's mining industry has opened up massive opportunities for international mining equipment and technology solution providers. Inner Mongolia's land area is the third largest in China. It has huge coal reserves, rich rare-earth resources, and its natural alkali reserves are among the largest in the country. It is also abundant in mineral products such as asbestos, mica, etc.

The China Mining Technology and Investment Summit 2010, organized by Baotou People's Municipal Government and Noppen, and supported by the Mongolian National Mining Association, the American General Business Association and China International Mining Group (CIMG) took place on 24-25 June 2010 in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, a featured venue for China's mining industry. At this summit, over 100 government officials, industry leaders, solution providers, project developers and experts from China's mining industries discussed topics covering mining industry development trends, domestic and international investment opportunities, mining and sustainable development, technologies and equipments.

Day one was opened with addresses from Li Feng Chun, Vice-Mayor of Baotou Municipality, and Pitsi Moloto from Limpopo Provincial Government of South Africa. Following were prominent government speakers including Dong Daohua, Former Vice Minister, The Ministry of Land and Resources who presented on optimizing the macro-economic environment in the mining industry and promoting green mining technology and equipment manufacturing; Guo Jian, Vice Director, Baotou Development and Reform Commission gave an overview of Baotou's development and a representative from Limpopo Provincial Government of South Africa spoke on investment opportunities in mining and related industries.

Influential speakers at the event included Wang Anjian, Director of Global Mineral Resources Strategy Research Center, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences who spoke on the forecasted steel needs for China; Zhao Caisheng, Deputy Director of the Technology Management Division, Development Research Center of China Geological Survey presented on the National Crisis Mines and Minerals Program; and Chen Jiabin, Deputy Director of Economics Management Research Office, Chinese Academy of Land and Resources Economics illustrated the mineral resource situation and the technical requirements. Other noteworthy presentations included some insights on mining machinery development by Pu Jin, China Coal Energy Company Limited and China National Coal Mining Equipment Co., Ltd; the development of energy saving and emission reduction in building a modern green mine presented by Pan Wenliang, Deputy General Manager, Sinosteel Mining and Fu Qiang, General Manager, Large Drives BU Division, Siemens Ltd. China conveyed mining automation from the vendors' perspective.

There were several advances in technologies and practices showcased at the summit. FM Global presented on understanding and reducing property loss exposures in the mining industry, Svendborg Brakes A/S spoke on their intelligent hydraulic disc braking systems customized for mining applications, Andritz described their mining dewatering and drying technologies, and Aggreko China conveyed their strategy for rental power in the mining industry. Other speakers at the event came from Baosteel Baiyun Erbo Iron Mine Co., Ltd; Yanzhou Coal Mining Co., Ltd; Shougang Mining Co., Ltd; China Transport Telecommunications & Information Center, Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China and Shccig Tongchuan Coal Mining Administration.

On the afternoon of day one Baotou Municipal Government hosted a welcome dinner which was attended by all the delegates. Pitsi Moloto, Member of Executive Council for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism from Limpopo Provincial Government of South Africa delivered a welcome message to the attendees.
